The Community Eyecare Review, commissioned by Health Secretary Shona Robison last year, has published today. Chaired by Hamish Wilson, the review looks at care provided by community optometrists and how this can be developed and enhanced.
As a truly independent optician in Monmouth, we have the freedom to use our expertise and choose a great range of standard and designer models. You don’t have to wait for your next eye examination to see what new frames are available – drop in to see us anytime; there’s no hard sell, but plenty of free advice if you need it.
The NHS Low Income Scheme (LIS) may provide partial help with the cost of a sight test, glasses, or contact lenses for those who don't qualify for full help but still have a low income. This means you may have to pay a contribution towards the cost of the sight test or the value of your optical voucher, or both.
It is reassuring to see that the tendering exercise has resulted in technology insertion not just in the product we are offering to users, but also in the considerable advantages associated with moving from our previous paper-based process to the new e-portal access. The energy and expertise ASE displayed was impressive, enabling us to move rapidly to service availability to the users.Bill Mears, Ministry of DefenceSouthern Rail introduced ASE corporate eye care to our drivers 1 year ago. Our experience was that this was a smooth transition into a new system, our drivers have been complimentary over the process and support from customer services. All queries are looked into and responded to in a timely manner. I would not hesitate to recommend their service.Megan Taylor, Southern RailThe services ASE provides is one of the very few ‘seamless’ services we deal with, I would thoroughly recommend them.Lorraine Cox, ArqivaThe Equinox eyeshield provides our trackside personnel with the best protection possible, high impact absorption and, with tinted lenses, protection from sunlight too.Dave Tough, Network Rail

Whenever you see anyone wearing some cool specs, you’ll know they’ll have gotten them from us. Spectacles are no longer just an optical aid to correct your vision, your glasses are an integral part of how you look, how you feel and how other people perceive you.
It suggests some eye services traditionally offered in hospitals, like post-cataract surgery appointments and managing stable glaucoma patients, should be made available locally. This is already happening in some parts of Scotland.
